OpenTox 2021 Intern

I am a recent graduate Master student in Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University and Research. During my studies, I followed the specialisation of Molecular Nutrition and Toxicology. The most interesting courses I accomplished and delved into molecular approaches are Applied Nutrigenomics, Human and Veterinary Immunology and Food Toxicology. For my theses, I was part of the  “Alternative to Animal Testing” team, projects at the division of Toxicology. For my Major thesis, I worked on “Assessment of the oxidative stress induced by NBMs using a reporter gene cell line (EpRE) and a Caco-2 intestinal model”. For my Minor thesis, my research was focused on “How to emulate an infant intestine on-chip”, a literature review.

I obtained my Bachelor degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Alexander Technological Education Institute of Thessaloniki. I worked on “Assessment of nutritional knowledge in hemodialysis and non-hemodialysis kidney patients”, regarding my thesis. During my thesis project, I collected my data visiting the “The Interbalkan Medical Center in Thessaloniki, Nephrology and Dialysis Department”. In addition, I did my internship at the Nutrition department in  “Theageneio- Anticancer Hospital of Thessaloniki”. Furthermore, an important part of my experience so far is the period I worked as a Dietitian in collaboration with my Bachelor thesis supervisor and my responsibility was to compose individual nutrition programs based on paediatric patients’ requirements.

Currently, I am delighted of being part of the “Open Tox Internship program 2021”. I am looking forward to interacting with the team exchanging knowledge and thriving together.
